Charles “Boston Strong” Rosa Joins BKFC Ice Wars

June 3, 2025 – Mt. Pleasant, MichiganBig news! Former UFC fighter Charles Rosa is joining BKFC Ice Wars, a brand-new sport that mixes bare-knuckle fighting and hockey. Rosa grew up playing hockey and even played in college. Now, he’s stepping into “The Ice Box” to fight on ice!
“I’ve been skating since I was four,” said Rosa. “With my UFC background, this is the perfect next step.”
Rosa’s family is full of fighters — his dad, grandpa, and uncle were all pro boxers. In the UFC, he fought 14 times and won “Fight of the Night” three times. He also has the most UFC wins at TD Garden in Boston. His pro MMA record is 19 wins and 8 losses.
BKFC Ice Wars President Ian Heinisch said Rosa is going to be one of the most exciting fighters in the sport. His first fight will be announced soon.
What Is BKFC Ice Wars?
BKFC Ice Wars is a new combat sport where fighters battle on ice. The first event is set for Saturday, June 14 at Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.There will be 12 fights featuring 24 fighters from the U.S. and Canada inside a 900-square-foot ice ring called “The Ice Box.” Tickets are on sale now at BKFCIW.com
What’s Next for Ice Wars?BKFC Ice Wars plans to host at least 6 events in 2025 and as many as 24 events in 2026. The second event is already scheduled for June 28 in Alberta, Canada. All events will stream online for fans around the world.
How Ice Wars Fights Work
• Rounds: 3–5 rounds per fight
• Time: Each round lasts 90 seconds
• Rest: 1-minute break between rounds
• Scoring: Judges score the whole fight, not round-by-round
• Judging Factors: Punches landed, aggression, and control of the ring
• Referees: 2 refs per fight
• Judges: 3 per fight
Ice Wars Weight Classes
• Lightweight: under 150 lbs
• Middleweight: 150–175 lbs
• Cruiserweight: 175–200 lbs
• Heavyweight: over 200 lbs
• Super Heavyweight: over 250 lbs
Fighters wear 4-ounce gloves and hockey jerseys
